Foreword From Dean

Welcome to the Faculty of Agriculture’s website. Thank you for allowing me to say a few words of welcome to the Faculty’s website. The Faculty of Agriculture is one of three founding faculties of Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (now Universiti Putra Malaysia) in 1971.  As a prominent Faculty in Malaysia, we are determined to be the centre of excellence in education, research, and professional services in areas of tropical agriculture.

Based on the national education system, the Faculty endeavours to produce experienced agriculturalists with entrepreneurial experience and the ability to undertake consultations and produce new and quality agricultural technologies from research and commercialization programs. The academic programmes offered by the faculty include Bachelor of Agricultural Science with honours, Bachelor of Horticulture Science with Honours, Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness with Honours, Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture with Honours, Bachelor of Animal Science with Honours, Bachelor of Science in Plantation Management with Honours and Bachelor of Technology in Smart Agriculture with Honours.

The Faculty also offers post-graduate programmes, namely Master in Land Resource Management (without thesis), Master in Plantation Management (without thesis), Master in Tropical Soil Science (without thesis) and Master of Science (M.S) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The study programmes offered to follow the current scenario and socio-economic structural changes that posed several challenges, especially in food production security and the dependence on foreign workers, limited arable land, increasing costs, climate change, and increased demand for food and non-food material by an increasing population as well as extreme competition due to liberalization of trade.

I believe this website can contribute to all the staff, students, alumni, the general public and relevant stakeholders in recognizing the services offered by the Faculty of Agriculture. I also hope it can help to provide clearer information to prospective students, visitors and the public to get the latest information about the activities carried out by the faculty, including academic activities, research and professional services.

I hope this website will continue to provide helpful guidance to those browsing it. I am sure that all the staff of the Faculty of Agriculture are always committed and ready to work together to assist you. The Faculty of Agriculture always strives for a higher level and will become a leading centre in tropical agriculture, and you are welcome to work with us.

Thank you to everyone involved in the construction of this website. I hope it will continue to be dynamic, particularly in line with the direction of UPM and the Faculty of Agriculture.
