Constitutions and By Laws
Rule 5: Membership

Membership
of the society is open to Malaysian Citizens , 18 years of age and above and
are categorized as follows;
-
Ordinary.
-
Honorary.
-
Student.
-
Associate.
-
Corporate.
-
Life.
-
The types of
membership mentioned in Rule 5 (1) are defined as follows:

An "ordinary member" has a university degree in
Agricultural or related sciences.
-
An "honorary member" is one with
distinguished academic accomplishments in Southeast Asian agricultural sciences
or one who has served with special merit for the Society, recommended by the
Committee and subject to approval of the General Meeting.

A "student member" is one with a desire
to join the Society as a student belonging to an educational institution and is
subjected to Rule 16 (5) of this constitution, and must have a written approval
from his/her parents
or guardian.

An "associate member" may be an individual
or group of individuals who does not qualify as an ordinary member, but with an
intention to support the Society's tasks.

A "corporate member" is a group of people
belonging to an agricultural company or corporation and is a recipient only of
the Society's publications.

A "life member" is an ordinary member over
55 years of age and who has paid the life membership fee.

Every
application for membership shall be proposed and seconded by two ordinary
members and shall be forwarded to the Secretary who shall at first convenient
opportunity submit it to the Committee for approval. The Committee may at its
discretion reject any application without assigning any reason therefore.

Every applicant
whose application has been approved as aforesaid shall upon payment of the
prescribed entrance fee and first yearly subscription, be admitted as a member
of the Society and shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership.
- A member is entitled to:
-
receive the Society's publications,
-
contribute an article to the Society's
publications,
-
participate, present research papers, lectures,
comments and engage in discussions at conferences, organized by the Society at
a special reduced rate.

to be elected as office-bearers.
Associate and Corporate members are not entitled to
ii, iii and iv above
-
No
university or university-college student shall be admitted as a member of the
Society without the prior written approval from the Vice-Chancellor of the
university concerned.
