Department of
Aquaculture was established
in September 2007 and is
currently located in the
Agriculture Complex II of
Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Due
to increasing demand for aquatic
products as a source of protein,
aquaculture is
developing rapidly throughout
the world today, and forms an
important component of the
agriculture industry. The main
goal for the establishment of
the Department is to produce
graduates who are skilled and
knowledgeable in science and
technology and be able to manage
aquaculture projects and enhance
the development of aquaculture
in the country.
The Department is staffed with
academic and other supporting personnel in the
various disciplines of aquaculture that cover
teaching, research and extension. Among the
areas that are being focused in the Department
include aquaculture technology, fish nutrition
technology, reproductive technology, genetics
and breeding, fish health, aquaculture
biotechnology, post-harvest and aquaculture
products technology.
The objectives of the Department
of Aquaculture are: 1) to enhance education and
research excellence in aquaculture, 2) to
generate professionals in aquaculture, and 3) to
contribute to the development of aquaculture in
Malaysia by utilizing our graduates through
research and education.
